Selling at Auction |
To achieve maximum dollars for your equipment, we strongly recommend consigning clean workable merchandise & equipment. Clean & well maintained equipment is attractive to buyers because of the high cost of new equipment. Regardless of the merchandise - its condition & general maintenance have a large influence on the price your equipment & items will bring. That first impression tells the prospective buyer that "this piece of equipment has been looked after" and reflects the prices that the unit will fetch. Little details like lights that are broken, cracked windshields, poor batteries, will negatively effect the price of your equipment.
Here is a list of our recommendations for you to consider when preparing to sell your items at auction:
- We recommend the portable steaming of your equipment. Steaming & Detailing Services are Available!
- Detailing the inside of cabs, hanging air fresheners, (everyone notices a clean interior!)
- Replacing Poor Batteries - Boosting equipment at the time of sale brings the price down on the equipment.
- Make sure you have enough fuel in your equipment!
- Preform a Fresh Oil & Filter Change!
- Consider replacing cracked windshields & broken or cracked lights!
- Make necessary repairs such as replacing damaged tires & missing or damaged parts!
- Smaller items that have accessories: Wire or zip tie its accessories to the unit.
- Hand tools etc.: Box or group the items. Zip tie or wire in small bundles for resale. If items look relatively clean & organized, it has a positive effect on how it sells. If it is missing a cord, tack a note to an item informing the buyer. If it needs work, put a note on it saying so. Be a "good guy".
- Miscellaneous items: We now sell miscellaneous items per pallet with our discretion. We appreciate if you have access to pallets to pre-group and organize your items to make unloading seamless. We do have a limited quantity of pallets at our auction site. If you are bringing more that a few items, please make a detailed list as you load your items before attending our auction. Handing this list to the booking staff makes consigment booking so much faster!
We can Assist you With : Steaming & Detailing Services, Windshields, Batteries!
I have decided what I am bringing, Now What?
- Call ahead or visit our website to find the intake hours for the sale you are bringing your item for.
- Call ahead to our office at 780-672-8478 to list your items well ahead of the auction so we can include them in our extensive marketing campaigns. Take pictures of major items ahead of time. You should possess these pics to have on hand for insurance purposes anyways. These days, it is a good idea to keep photos of nearly everything you own. A nice current pic of your equipment can be emailed to us weeks ahead of its arrival to attract buyers for your items. If the photos are fairly large, don't resize them. Just email us a few at a time. We prefer to resize/crop them ourselves.
- When bringing your items - leave home at a reasonable time to arrive before closing.
- Know what you are bringing! Write it down! A well described item makes a difference! Make, Model, Year, Horse Power, Hours, Mileage, Serial Numbers should accompany you when you are booking items for auction. You should know what something is - you are the current owner. We love well-detailed descriptions & so do the buyers!
- You are welcome to leave a writeup taped to the inside of side windows on items you are selling. Sometimes it is helpful for buyers to easily identify as to what an item is & what it is used for. I once spent a considerable amount of time searching a consignors lot to take a picture of a Gophenator! A note taped to this item would have been very helpful.. lol... Remember that it must be accurate and truthful. You will be taken to task on errors and any incorrect/misleading statements. Honest sells best! It shows that you care!
- Service history - providing copies of your units service history are attractive for buyers to have access to view. Bring copies with you when you book your items in for us to have on hand to provide to prospective buyers.
- If you bring a trailer, bring your trailer insurance/registration. Don't forget to bring it. Don't say that you will "get it to us". Buyers need to know if it has been previously registered for highway use & so do we. If it is missing a plate/stamp of serial number, go & get it replaced! Otherwise, the buyer will have to absorb the cost of having it researched & stamped so they are able to take it down the road. If it is missing, this will bring down the sale value - it will sell for less without it! It would be unfortunate to have to sell it described as "deck on wheels". Just because you were given a trailer plate in 1978 - doesn't make it ok for you to tack it on to every other trailer you buy thereafter. If a holiday trailer serial number & year are missing or unreadable, get them replaced! Don't leave it for the next guy. Don't arrive & just say you are "just the delivery person". All information & documents must accompany the person who is delivering your registrable items. If you are pulled over... you will learn that these are costly & embarrassing mistakes on your part! Being prepared at booking saves lots of time!
- All Lien & Encumbrances disclosure is required at the time of booking.
- Insurance must be maintained until after the item is sold.
- Bring your registration & insurance. It is recommended.
- It is a requirement that the consignor is responsible to inform the booking staff of any mechanical & latent defects, write-offs, or out of province Vehicles/Trailers/RV's (registerable items) etc., must be disclosed at time of booking. Furthermore, any odometer or hour meter changes must also be declared.
